Casa Cubista came about as a happy accident. Its founders, David Pimentel (craftsman) and Arren Williams (interior stylist and journalist), started thinking of sharing the beautiful handicrafts they discovered in Portugal with friends around the world.
In an old '92 Golf, they combed the Portuguese countryside long and slow to meet various artisans. They were guided by the idea of combining tradition and modern design in Casa Cubista, and at the same time helping local artisans to survive. The company's headquarters are located in Olhão, a busy fishing port on Portugal's Algarve coast. Hence the origin of the name, as the town is known for its white buildings decorated with tiles, or for the cubist style of construction in the old part of the town.
Both founders swear by traditional materials such as terracotta, cotton, linen, wool and the like. The brand brings together various producers, such as weavers, furniture makers and knitters and potters, according to the principle of a cooperative.
At Parada, we like to show off our ceramics. It was one of the first brands that "caught the eye" of both women. Now we can proudly say that there are more and more fans of this sunny ceramic, which brings joy and memories of summer walks to our home.
Each piece of Casa Cubista ceramics passes through the skilled hands of potter Rui, whose family can boast a venerable 200-year tradition in pottery. Then the products are dried in the hot Portuguese sun until they are ready to be dyed. That's when it's Ru's aunt Regina's turn, who paints each piece of pottery with her calm and experienced hand.
