Jona Bednjanec (1991) is a young fashion designer who developed her creativity and passion for knitwear design while studying at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana, where she completed both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Textile and Clothing Design. Her creative journey began during her studies, when she regularly participated in student fashion shows and projects.
She first presented her work independently at the Stylo competition, in collaboration with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Ljubljana, which took place in Koper. Here she received the first prize for the most innovative, technologically and design-perfect collection. The following year, she presented her collection Granny Takes a Trip at Ljubljana Fashion Week , where she received the LJFW Digi Wow award for this work. Since then, she has been successfully presenting her knitwear brand, Jona Bednjanec , both at home and on foreign markets.
Jona Bednjanec focuses on knitwear, which is her main design medium. In her collections, she intertwines colors, patterns and knitting technologies, expressing her creativity through a unique approach to design. She develops and designs all of her works herself - either on knitting machines or by hand in her studio in Ljubljana. It is important to her to maintain the high quality of her products, which is why she regularly collaborates with local knitwear manufacturers, which allows her to ensure that her products are completely made in Slovenia.
Her work often draws on knitting technology and traditional hand techniques such as hand knitting and crochet, intertwining them with innovative approaches. Her creativity is expressed in the unique and distinctive knitwear she offers through her brand.
Jona Bednjanec's knitwear is available in stores specializing in independent young designers across Europe and America. She also regularly presents at Ljubljana Fashion Week , where she has become a regular. Her work has also been included in numerous artistic projects, including the costume design for the short animated film Borbike by Nike Jurman and the group exhibition Fin de Siecle at Layer Gallery in Kranj.
Jona Bednjanec is also actively involved in numerous pop-up events, such as Pop-UpStart in collaboration with the Center for Creativity in Maribor (2019), a pop-up sales exhibition in collaboration with 5WAY in Milan (2020), Res-Res Pop-Up in Copenhagen (2022), and the annual December event Jelka in Ljubljana.
Her story and work prove that Jona Bednjanec, with her brand, not only brings fashionable pieces, but also a deep artistic expression that refreshes and innovates the world of knitwear.
