Adriana Camile is a visual artist who lives and creates between two geographical and sensory worlds – Northern California, where she was born and raised, and Slovenia, where she eventually moved and feels it as her motherland. Her work is deeply rooted in nature – not only as inspiration, but as raw material, content, and a dialogue partner for artistic expression.
As a girl, she began collecting and drying plants – delicate wild flowers, leaves, seeds – and carefully preserved them with the sensitivity of a child's attention as precious memories. This practice never truly stopped, but rather evolved into a subtle and meditative artistic language that now characterizes her work.
Artistic Practice
Adriana's creativity focuses on creating delicate compositions from dried plants, which she places on transparent fabrics or handmade paper. Each leaf, each flower, each stem is hand-selected, dried, and then carefully incorporated into the visual narrative. Her process requires time, patience, and great attention – each element finds its place in a composition that acts as a quiet yet rich map of a seasonal moment or an emotional landscape.
Her botanical artworks are not merely aesthetic objects but visual meditations on transience, the rhythm of nature, and silence. They often reflect the movement of wind, the softness of morning light, or the feeling of spring bloom. Adriana preserves the organic integrity of the plants, emphasizing their fragility through the use of transparent supports and natural light, which subtly interacts with the works.
In addition to botanical collages, she also creates mobile objects – hanging compositions that gently move with the air, revealing layers of light, form, and balance. For these, she uses silk threads, wooden hoops, and other natural materials, often recycled or handmade.
Inspiration and Education
Adriana's work is inextricably linked to her living environment. The landscapes of Northern California – with the ocean, redwood forests, and gentle Californian sun – meet the Slovenian landscape, with lush meadows, alpine peaks, and a Mediterranean climate. This duality is also present in her work – in the interplay of light and shadows, textures and spaces, the familiar and the foreign.
Her education reflects a similar diversity. The floral school in San Francisco gave her precision and knowledge of botanical materials. At the University of Colorado Boulder, she graduated magna cum laude with a degree in anthropology and humanities, which strengthened her understanding of culture, nature, and humanity. Later, she completed Waldorf pedagogical training, where she refined practical artistic skills and developed a sense of aesthetics present in everyday actions. She is currently studying in the field of therapeutic art.
Her creative journey also grew organically from her family environment – she spent her childhood in the studio of her parents, both artists and craftspeople. There, she developed a love for manual work, precision, and quiet perseverance.
Between Nature and Gentle Presence
Today, Adriana creates in Ljubljana, a city she describes as a meeting of the sea and mountains – a place where the inner and outer worlds merge in a creative rhythm. Her art is not loud. It is an invitation to observe, to contemplate, to silence. Her works are not displayed to dominate the space, but to subtly enrich it – like a breath, like light on a leaf, like a flower you only noticed when you stopped.
